Story - chapter 1:

From beyond space and time they came. The shadowy evil of extra dimensional intelligences cast their lethal net among the new found stars of the Milky Way. Soon, every quadrant would come to realize the power of the dark force that menaced all life and civilization that was in the federation and even those that weren't. Galaxies yet undiscovered were like sand trickling in the hour glass. Time was short and the hour late as the federation came to grips with the threat from beyond the eternal stars themselves. The year is 2554 AD, and the Sphere Builders were on the verge of creating a trans-dimensional conduit large enough to bring the bulk of their fleet through. The Milky Way species were startled by this frightening reality. To this point, the Sphere Builders had only been able to produce small openings, large enough to bring a few ships through at a time. Even these had proven formidable for those given the task of destroying them.
