Walking home from the office one Saturday lunchtime after putting in a spot of overtime, Bob had a sudden craving for beer. It had been a thirsty morning's work, with only one small cuppa to keep him going since breakfast time.

He discovered that he had unconsciously drifted down the quiet side street that housed his favourite pub. Crossing the dirty, cobbled road, he made a beeline for the grotty pub and pushed open the door.

He entered the inner city dive and paused, surveying the room. Already it was filled with a blue haze of smoke as the regulars knocked back mediocre beer and checked yesterday's racing results. The constant hubbub of intense conversation filled the air.

Satisfied, Bob walked over to the bar and waited patiently to be served. It was a very old pub, with the clientèle kept strictly on their own side of the bar by a series of wooden and glass shutters atop the shiny wooden counter.

The barmaid arrived and peered through the already open shutter by Bob's head. "Can I help you, luv?", she droned. Bob noted that she was wearing the standard uniform of blonde hair and abundant cleavage.

"Pint of ordinary, please", ordered Bob.
