"You remember the one they spoke about don't you?" he asked very seriously while I stood there facing him with a stupid smirk on my face. We were on the street, outside of the store where Earl said she worked. The information had been volunteered without my asking. Who, why, what, or anything else about the woman is none of my business and certainly none of Earl's either for that matter. All I had done to bring on the spiel of information concerning Helen from my friend Earl was my mention of her beauty.

Helen has been around this town forever as far as we knew. Harry once said she is about sixty or more. At various times when the most attractive women of the town and immediate vicinity have been discussed among us men, I heard her age mentioned as being anything from forty on up. Never have I seen her frequenting any of the bars or walking the streets with any men either, for that matter. The one place she seems to hang out most where I have seen her a lot is the town library. If she is not there, then she is home or at work. That is what I think.

Monmouth's Store is famous for its produce and today is the day for the vegetable specials. Pushing the door open, I stood just inside looking around as I felt through my pockets until I found the list of goodies I was to buy.
