"For...forgive me," it was little more than a whisper and came out in a garbled manner. Looking right at her, I could not be sure she is even the right girl. When it happened it was so dark I don't think any one of us could identify any of the others. The entire concept was ludicrous at best. There was supposed to be twenty men and twenty women, but there were not. Not only that, but there were many more women than we ever imagined would come! Where they came from or why for that matter is a mystery of the highest order to me. It would not be a surprise if some one said there were a hundred or even more. I do know there were more than would fit in the place.

This woman that I am trying to pacify, I am certain was one of ‘them' - the extras. How any person can be sure in this system of new relationships is a part of the mystery. Wet through from the rain, disappointed to be sure, and shivering from the chill cold air blowing in off of the ocean, the little woman kept following me. All the other people, both men and women had left. There was nothing I could do, so I walked toward my place. I do not know what I would have done if it had worked. Who ever heard of gathering twenty people of the opposite sex together let them mix for awhile, and then question them one at a time to discover what was interesting to them concerning the person to whom they attached themselves in conversation.
