Positive Discrimination -----------------------

"Hey Gary" said my boss, "can you stay a bit later tonight. We've got someone from corproarte HR visiting and she has asked me to set up a meeting with some of the younger staff in the big conference room. Something about a new anti-discrimination policy."

Not what you want to hear at 4pm on a Friday but it wasn't as if I had a date for that evening anyway. I spent far too much time writing code for the new project and not enough time chasing women for a healthy 25 year old. When I got to the conference room there were about 20 other people there, mostly younger guys but with a few women here and there. And there was a buffet set up with beer, wine and Chinese food at the side of the room. That's not something you see every week at the defense contractor where I work. In fact you would be lucky to see it once a year.

A few minutes after five the corporate HR suit walked into the room. She was wearing a dark blue business suit cut a bit too tight to be normal boring manager attire, black hose and heels a few centimetres higher than normal workwear.

The boss introduced her and she clicked up her PowerPoint on the screen.
