The very next afternoon was a glorious May spring day. White fluffy clouds accented the sky as the sun drenched the land in its life giving light. Arthur Fitzherbert and Roger had ridden to a glade in the middle of a copse of trees near the Fitzherbert estate. The two men dismounted and leisurely walked to a gurgling brook. In moments they sat down on a large, flat, granite rock. It was a pleasant scene, quiet except for the twittering of birds in the upper branches of the nearby trees and the gurgling, splashing sounds of their two horses as they drank at the stream.

Arthur Fitzherbert was a man of middle age and he was wearing his white wig that conveniently covered his graying brown hair. His eyes were brown and quite penetrating. The older man was a little overweight for his short height of five foot four inches. He had a pronounced and unusual open legged walk as if he were enduring some discomfort. When they had passed over the pleasantries, Arthur spoke kindly to the younger man. "I think you know why I've asked you here this afternoon."

Roger remained silent as he tried to read the older man's face. Arthur smiled, "Your discretion does you honor sir. Nora has told me everything and let me say I approve of the affair. You won't be betraying a confidence by discussing this with me." ...
