The House of Commons buzzed in anticipation up until the moment when Roger Hallworth began his maiden speech. They had been told to expect something certainly better than the usual. For days Essex and Sir Edward had been telling the leaders in the commons about the new firebrand from Sudbury and it was with interest that they watched the young man take his place to speak.

His voice was loud and commanding as he surveyed his notes. Nobody noticed the marks of the pocks on his face as many of them had endured the same affliction.

Roger continued, "I consider it an honor to serve this great country in any way I can. I believe I can best accomplish this by attempting to improve the system of law and justice that we have. Our accomplishments have been great. Starting with Magna Carta and the important reigns of Henry and Elizabeth we came to understand that men are justified by faith and improved by the freedom to learn and increase knowledge. Haven't we discovered more in both exploration and science than the other nations? ...
