A Night in Cuba

I could feel myself turning into the next skin cancer victim as I sat at the pools edge, dangling my feet in the water while I sipped a rum and coke. It was our second full day in Cuba and I was thoroughly enjoying my respite from the harsh Labrador winter that I'd left behind. My wife Michelle was finishing off her laps in the pool, her seemingly lazy strokes carrying her through the water like a hungry barracuda. We were married four months earlier in August and had decided to head south with some friends of ours for the Christmas break as a kind of delayed honeymoon. I was staring at her athletic swimmers body and shook my head, marveling at how easy she made it look. My buddy Dave sat down beside me with a fresh drink for both of us in his hand.

"Here, thought you could use a refill," he said, sitting next to me. "This fucking weather is awesome. Twenty five degrees here and minus forty back home, I can so live with this."

"So the weather has you happy," I smiled over at him. "Your mood has nothing to do with the tons of hot girls walking around here in bathing suits that are falling off."
