Stacy and I had been dating for a few years, and as we'd finished college and were both starting our respective careers, the terror of adulthood was starting to settle in. Bills, responsibility and all those things that college kids try to postpone as long as possible were hitting us hard. But, life was good. I was with a gorgeous woman, we shared a cute apartment that overlooked the ocean, we were healthy, both had good jobs and our future looked good. As our lives became busy with work, friends and those responsibilities, we both found that we'd been spending less time together, something that we both agreed was important in our relationship.

I think it was a Wednesday night or something that we'd briefly discussed giving more to each other and shortly before falling asleep we decided that the coming weekend we'd turn off our cell phones and focus on each other. When Stacy met me at my office on Friday afternoon, we did our ceremonial "ode to freedom", in which our cell phones, blackberry's and all other distractions were powered off. In fact, I left my phone and such in my desk so I wouldn't be tempted to "check-in" as the boss liked us to do.
