McRory was an all girls college in Southern Ontario. It had, at one time, been a school with strong ties to the Catholic Church. Now, the ties were much more loose, but the school still maintained a strong sense of propriety. Upstanding moral conduct was expected of all McRory school girls.

It was, at one time, considered a fine finishing school for wealthy Catholic girls. Modernity had, however, crept over it's ivy covered walls and pushed it's way into cracks in the very masonry of the school's foundation. Uniforms were still a requirement, though most girls tried to get away with less than modest alterations. A girl with sewing skills could make a killing charging freshman for the raising of the not-so-flattering knee length hem. Even more money if they could tailor the flat cut oxford they were required to wear. It was a strange time for the school. The clash of old and new created tension all over campus.

Kate was not fond of the idea of teaching at an all girls Catholic college, but being young afforded her few choices. She had accepted the position of professor in the math department in August when the chair had retired. Her office, of course, was the smallest, down a short corridor from the two main lecture halls. The new chair of the department, of course, moved into the big office with the view of the quad, and each professor in turn had moved up an office.
