Missy grew up on a farm in rural Iowa with her parents and no siblings. She was home schooled, and rarely saw outsiders. She was a smart girl, but very naive. By the time she was eighteen, she was of course used to working on her parents' farm, doing all manner of chores. She was basically happy, but she knew something was missing from her life, although she couldn't describe what it was.

Missy decided that she wanted to go to college. Her parents told her that she would first have to earn some money to assist in paying for it; they were able to eke out a living for themselves, but had no extra money to pay for college. Finally, they came up with a solution. Missy would work for a couple with a very large, prosperous farm about fifty miles away in another rural farm.

The couple was Harold and Bethany White. They were a respected couple, very successful, and had been looking for help. They were at first skeptical about Missy being the person they wanted, but they agreed to meet her.

On the day Harold and Bethany were to come to Missy's home to meet her, Missy was very nervous. She made sure she wore her nicest dress and her one pair of dress shoes. Missy was beautiful; she had waist-length, curly brown hair and startling blue eyes.
