Saturday, and here I was on my own, no money, and forced to window shop at the crowded mall. I had to get out of the flat, I was being driven crazy by Louise - my flat mate, and her new man, Dave. They were in the first excited flushes of romance, and had been having sex all night ... very loudly. Nothing rubs a single girl's nose in it more than a blissfully happy couple. They were all over each other in the kitchen as I waited for my toast, and the final crunch came when I tried to get into the bathroom and could hear them giggling in there too!

It wasn't much better here either. Everyone seemed part of a couple. I slumped myself in the corner of the coffee shop, trying to look invisible and wondering how long I could make my Latte last. I spotted a guy I vaguely recognised at the counter, and he looked over and waved at me with a sheepish grin. Where did I know him from? He was too young to have been in my year at school so that couldn't be it ... and I don't think he worked in my office. I returned the wave, and then realised he was coming over!

"Is it OK if I join you, Laura isn't it?" he said. I motioned for him to sit in the spare seat and tried desperately to remember his name. After an awkward pause, he laughed "You don't remember me do you?" he said
