The Club

It was a Friday night in early May. My wife was away until Sunday and my daughter had several friends over for the night. They were all 18 and seniors in high school. Our dinner consisted of several kinds of pizza and soda. As we ate (they very kindly included me) I sat and watched in amazement how they could all carry on about twenty different topics with each other all at the same time. Who was breaking up with who. Who was going to the prom. Upcoming exams. Colleges. Summer vacations. Clothes. Music. You get the idea.

After we cleaned up, the girls retired to the rec room to watch DVDs, play music, talk some more, and have a nice time for themselves. I retreated to the other side of the house, where I read until about 10 o'clock, when I decided it was time for bed. I went and asked my daughter to lower the noise level so I could sleep, went back to my room, and hit the hay.
