After the incredible excitement of the archery contest the melee was a bit of a let down. Knights of various ranks and skill levels fought each other in mock combat. Even with precautions, however, several men were injured. The party led by Lord Essex and DeBerg were more successful than the group led by the lord of Northumberland and after the dust cleared, Ivan hoe was on the winning side although his own heroics were not particularly distinguished. At least he hadn't been captured and be forced to pay ransom for his armor. All in all it had been a very profitable two days for Ivanhoe with his victories of the previous day.

Sometime after the melee Wilfred was able to wander to where Rowena sat. She was surrounded by her usual attendants as she was casually eating an early supper.

He spoke softly as he knelt beside her. "My lady Rowena, you truly deserved the token I gave you yesterday. To me you are the loveliest lady in this or any kingdom."
