It was early winter; there was slight chill in the wind along with the fine sand from the dessert.

It was my first winter in the Middle East. Away from friends and loved ones, working in an unfriendly atmosphere, I was bored, sad and was longing to go back home.

I had started taking up long walks just to distract me from loneliness. The winter shortened the day light, and by 5 it was pretty dark and the open spaces were deserted.

I decided to try a new route that day as the road which I used to walk was undergoing maintenance and the dust was unbearable. The new route circled a large ground were huge trucks could be seen parked. I could also see few tall figures of Pathans near them.

As I was passing by admiring the size and might of the huge vehicle some body called out " kaise ho bhai" (how r u brother). Without realizing what I was doing I replied " deek hu yaar" (fine thank you). He came out from the shadows. 6 feet tall, thick mustache and beard well trimmed, and pale blue eyes. He should be in his early thirties. He was wearing their traditional salwar.
