It was raining, Jesus Christ it was really raining. It was one of those frog strangler type of rains we get down here in south Mississippi every friggin' time some damn hurricane wanders out into the Gulf of Mexico. Hurricane Lucy had been born off the coast of Africa and had wondered across the central Atlantic...wreaking havoc in Cuba and the other Carribean Islands before tearing the shit out of south Florida. Now she was loose in the Gulf, getting up a head of steam and bearing down on Mexico. As a result, we got all this friggin' rain.

We had evacuated all the drilling platforms in the Gulf. Harry and I had been flying for damn near sixty hours out of the last seventy two. We had to land all the way up in Hattisburg to get away from some of the wind. I'd tied the Bell 212 down, getting my ass soaked, and then I looked around and saw Harry and Joanne sitting there in that raggedy assed 53 Jimmy that Harry called a truck. You know something, that friggin' Harry has more money than God, but he won't buy anything with any class. I think he loves that damned old truck more than he cares about Joanne. Anyway she had driven all the way up from Gulfport to fetch us, even though she said it was raining so hard she couldn't see too well.
