"Malaysia, Truly Asia". I wonder how many times have you heard or seen that phrase in the Visit Malaysia year campaigns? I guess that it's true in some ways. We are a country which consists of a mixture of majority Malays, and minority Chinese, Indians, Eurasians, aboriginal orang asli people and natives of the Borneo island. So, you do get to see the cultures from many parts of Asia converging in a relatively small land area if you come over.

However, now here's the caveat, you'll hardly see much interaction between different races except if they need to buy goods from each other or need to get some work done. This is largely thanks to the ruling coalition's strategy of dividing and conquering. Have you ever heard of a country where the government promotes racial supremacy besides South Africa of old and Nazi Germany? Well, if you haven't, welcome to Malaysia where the concept of "Ketuanan Melayu" or Malay Lordship or Malay Supremacy holds sway over the general population. The general populace have been manipulated into believing that Chinese are greedy bastards, Indians are no good drunkards and Malays are marginalised in their own country when they deserve to be the lords of all the "newcomers". Added to this fact is the law that all Malays are born Muslims and can never convert to any other religion while Chinese are mostly Buddhists, Taoists and Christians and Indians are largely Hindus, Sikhs and Christians and you can see it is a country with an intriguing blend of race, religion and politics.
