“Miss Adams, you may enter.”

Elena Adams entered Mr. Kanley’s office – the Warden of Clinton County’s prison. She had been sentenced to 5 years imprisonment and she was up for parole already after 3 years. She knew that Mr. Kanley had to go through the formalities of the procedure, but it would be time well spent knowing that she could possibly get out in less than a month.

“Miss Adams, take a seat.”

Elena sat down in the chair farthest from the Warden’s desk. She sat straight in her chair and folded her hands in her lap and prepared to listen to what he had to say.

“Miss Adams, you are fully aware that you are up for parole.”

Elena could only gulp and nod yes. She watched as he shifted some papers on his desk and she noticed that it had always been difficult to see his eyes because he wore heavy dark tinted glasses.

“You need to go through an interview first to see if you are eligible for parole. And I’m the one to decide whether or not you get that interview based on many factors – your good behavior at the prison and whether or not you’ve been giving trouble to your superiors.”
