A lot of planning goes into a wedding. Someone has to choose the church and select the person to perform the service, or arrange for the who and where of the civil service. Then they have to pick the hall for the reception, the caterer, the flowers, the entertainment, and the photographer. Reservations are made months or even years in advance. And somebody has to pick out the invitations, select a menu, set up the registrations at various stores so the right wedding gifts are purchased, and arrange for the limo. This whole deal is so complex that many women turn to professionals who do this for a living, and just write them a huge check to deal with it all.

Little girls start planning their wedding at about age nine. They design their gowns. They decide if their new husband will be allowed to stuff wedding cake into their mouths at the reception. They start making lists of their friends to invite. By the time their nuptials roll around, they've planned every single minute detail, over and over, for a decade or more.

Their mothers started years earlier, often making plans for their daughter's wedding before the little tyke was conceived. Sometimes the mother's plans for their daughter's wedding actually coincide with their daughter's plans, although no one I know has ever seen that happen.
