Nothing Wild

"God, I love this place," Reggie said, standing at the railing of the suite he and I would be sharing with our wives for the week.

In the corner of the deck stood a steaming hot tub, just begging to soothe my road weary muscles, but I knew that would have to wait until we had unpacked and stocked the fridge with the goods the girls were buying while we had packed the luggage up to the room. My mind drifted to the golf clubs sitting in our rooms and the tee time that Reggie and I had arranged for our arrival. The plan was that the girls would drop us at the Pro-shop, and then they would head into town for some of whatever women do in vacation towns while Reggie and I bonded with nature by chasing a little white ball around a field.

"Pity that nature doesn't care," I said, looking down the slope to where the lake should be. What should have been an unobstructed view of a crystal clear lake reflecting the mountains behind it was instead obscured by a torrent of water falling from the sky. "When did they move this place under a waterfall?"

"You do know what this means, don't you?"

With resignation I said, "Holding purses while they try on one outfit after another." ...
