Eliza pressed herself against the moss covered outer wall of the courtyard. Her breast heaved as she tried to slow her racing heart. She had been gone too long, spent too many moments dallying in the arms of her lover, Carlos. She could still smell his scent on her clothes and feel his hands on her lower back, pulling her deeper onto his being.

She flushed. As her hands had traced the routes Carlos took earlier she realized the upper straps on her bodice had been torn. She would need to explain that away if she was caught by her husband. He would be very rough on her if he found her in so disheveled a state.

Her flush deepened at that thought. Where Carlos was forceful, demanding and passionate Steven was cold, brutal and dominating. She realized that these thoughts were having the opposite effect on her being and pushed them from her mind. She wanted to return to her private room without incident this morning.

Tucking the torn laces into her bodice Eliza looked out around the courtyard one last time and seeing it empty she made her move. Her choice of clothing was not meant for running and she struggled to maintain a quick pace.
