ON THE CARIBBEAN

They were somewhere in the Eastern Caribbean on a cruise ship full of vacationing, happy people. In a week it would dock in Puerto Rico and Lorenzo would have a plan in mind by then. For now, though, they were safe and happy. Julie loved being on the ship and was signing herself up for every imaginable activity. Sometimes he forgot how young she was. His slave was full of youthful exuberance and he couldn't help but at times get caught up in it. When she signed him up for the ship's trivia contest he'd been annoyed, but then decided to do it. When he won the contest, earning them a bottle of champagne, she was screaming for joy in her skimpy pool deck robe and green bikini. He could see some of the older men and women in the audience looking at him with both disdain and envy. It was the kind of attention the two of them didn't need.

At dinner, they were assigned a table with two other couples, both in their thirties, an attractive black couple, both of whom were attorneys, and a Ken and Barbie type couple who'd been married a year and had made their money with online investments. Lorenzo told them he was a security consultant for a number of companies but that he was precluded from naming specifics, while his young wife, Julie, was a student.
