The Hotel Clerk (Part VIII)

"I'm pregnant!!!" were the first words I heard blurting through the ear piece as I picked up the phone mid day on Sunday. "You mean....." I queried. "Yes, you did it first time, I'm preggos, due in December!" Sarah announced excitedly as I stopped to contemplate the news. "Well congratulations, I know this is what you wanted" I stated, partially happy and partially scared, wondering how much commitment Sarah expected from me. "I am very happy, it's still early, about 2 months, but I am already feeling very tired" Sarah explained as she continued to announce all the news that had taken place surrounding her first baby.

We discussed the matter for some time until Sarah's mother beckoned, at which time Sarah hung up, cheerfully saying goodbye and asking if I would consider coming to stay with her when the baby was due. I naturally agreed feeling it was the least I could do, considering it was also my child.

As the news sunk in I paced the room, feeling a sense of excitement at the prospect of being a father. I had always heard of simply 'knowing' when the time was right and looking back at my life of partying and general irresponsibility I felt that now was the right time. Sarah and I had become extremely close in the past year and although she never hassled me about marriage I knew that her long term plan was marriage ...
