The Country Mouse

Angela Edwards had spent her whole life taking care of one relative or another. She was twenty-four when the last one, died at sixty-seven. Angela had never worked outside her home and other then her time in school, where she had graduated last in a class of one hundred and twenty, she had no formal education.

The last illness of her mother had cost a lot of money and so Angela was forced to sell the family home and with only a few exceptions everything in it. She moved to the near by city of Chicago with enough to rent a small apartment in a mediocre neighborhood and settle in with her personal possessions and household goods.

Monday morning dawned early in her new life with the next-door neighbors having a quickie before work. The bed was obviously against the wall where Angela slept, and it banged repeatedly until with a sharp scream that turned into giggling, and the sound of a clock alarm it was all over for the morning.

Angela got up and made coffee, she was certainly awake. It was early so that by 8:30 she was dressed and ready to catch a bus downtown and visit the employment office to see what if any job she could find. She would be happy as long as it wasn't taking care of old people. She vowed she was done with dying it was time to live. ...
