Edward Spencer was living in a quiet suburb near Lincoln. It was 1910 and although things were peaceful, war clouds were gathering over Europe. His considerable income permitted him to study and live at his leisure. However, his observations of the political scene left him apprehensive. . With the occasional prompt from Monitor, he easily kept up with the latest advances especially in mathematics and physics. The discovery of Albert Einstein had really made the monitor perk up. It was no longer needed for him to practice an avocation as his huge fortune had grown to nearly a million pounds and he collectively held four doctorate degrees from 4 different universities. Of course he could only use two of them currently as the other two had gone to technically a different person. He was assumed by most persons in his community to be about forty although he made sure he wasn't very well known. He kept up a lively correspondence with one of his professors whom he'd befriended to some extent a few years past.

It was proving to be quite difficult to obtain female companionship on a casual basis. Victorian mores had reached ultimate expression in the Edwardian era. They had manners for everything from the way one was supposed to hold a tea cup to where each fork and spoon were placed, to the correct words that must be spoken at each and every different ...
