Captain Herrick practically pounded down the commander's door. "What the hell is it Captain?" Herrick answered with an excitement in his voice that Edgar had never heard before. "You won't believe this Colonel! Allison found something amazing in the rift! It's definitely something that was made by intelligent life!"

Colonel Spencer shot out of his chair. "What the fuck are you talking about?"

Herrick went to the computer. "I can show you vid views of the discovery. He's sent back pictures of it all!"

They watched in fascination as the pictures went by on the screen. At first Allison was walking down a long cavern with rough walls and a crude floor. It had been ten months since the confrontation over the teleportation reception. Kal and Nika had worked the rift a startling three hundred miles and now they'd apparently struck pay dirt. The corridor turned to the right and the walls became smooth and the floor glistened as if it had been polished at some time in the distant past.
