Mike heard the phone ringing as he unlocked the front door. Probably just bloody double glazing salesmen, he thought but hurriedly turned the keys in the lock anyway. With a heave he pushed open the door, slamming it behind him and picked up the receiver.

"Hello?"

"Mike? Hi, it's Alan."

"Hey Al. S'up?" Asked Mike as he walked into the kitchen, the phone cable unravelling in an ever increasing black line.

"Just wanted to ask you a big favour, mate." his friend said, emphasising the 'big'.

"Such as?" asked Mike as he took a can of Carlsberg Export from the fridge.

"Would you be able to mind Lea for us tonight, man?" Mike rolled his eyes in frustration as he saw his night of chilling out with beer and footy slip away from him. "We've both got to be at a meeting in London tomorrow, which means travelling tonight. I wouldn't ask but since Ellie's mum had the breakdown we've been bolloxed for baby sitters."

"What about Beth?" he asked in vain hope that Alan's eldest would be ...
