Rough

Another loss. Another shitty night. It was getting worse and worse every time out and soon Burton would be pitching back in some dump like Medicine Hat or Idaho Falls, or even Toledo. He'd pitched in all sorts of places, including those towns and he liked pitching in Phoenix a lot more. The major leagues were first class and the minors were all very minor. He couldn't get anyone out and worse than that he had no solution. The facts were clear: he didn't have major league stuff. The day was going to come, and come soon, that would send him back to the minor leagues.

As bad as his major league career was going, aside from his $500,000.00 annual salary, Burton's personal life sucked too. His young, sexy little wife had left him. Had he cheated on her on the road? A couple times, yes, but that wasn't what happened to the marriage. She'd left him for the team's second baseman. Her new man had made the all-star team and then signed with Los Angeles as a free agent. Now the whore was a television personality on a local talk show while her new hubby was a multi-millionaire. In fact, while he sprawled out on his bed in his modest Chandler, Arizona home, he watched his ex's new hubby participate in the home run derby from Yankee Stadium during the all star break. He snapped the TV off with the remote and then flung it against the wall.
