It was a lazy sunny morning as she tended the hives. She was on Lord Cardigan's land today, usually here twice a week. She was driving the little donkey cart, stopping at the hives, emptying the honey, occasionally chatting with the workers in the fields. She was looking forward to having her lunch by the pool on the river and having a swim.

She was nearly there when she crossed the corner of a field and saw a man on a horse galloping with a lance and aiming at a target which seemed to be a straw man. She watched, fascinated. He bypassed the target and turned, saw her, and placed the lance in a pocket in his saddle and approached her, sweeping his cap off in a chivalrous manner.

"Good day, My Lady. May I inquire of your business on My Lord's land?" He had a curious lilting accent; she found him attractive.

"My husband is the beekeeper." She pointed to the clay pots in the back of the donkey cart. "I usually come here twice a week to collect the honey from the hives."

"My pardon, My Lady." He inclined his head.
