I had been in engineering for too many years. I hated to even think about how many. I was looking at early retirement in a few years in my own business and now I was working for someone else. I had run this company with several people working for me just a few years ago. We were doing well and I was becoming financially secure and happy with my life. That attack completely changed everything.

Like everyone else though, I looked for new opportunities and traveled long distances by car to take temporary contract work, wherever I could find it. I was making a high 6 figure income before 2001 and now I was lucky to find jobs that paid $20 an hour or less. Fortunately I was well versed and experienced with other technologies and skilled with the PC. I had used and was familiar with most of the well-known software packages out there, which also helped a little. ...
