The sharp beeping of the alarm startled Dave awake. The sun was just clearing the tall trees in the yard and getting ready to stream in the open window of the bedroom. It had cooled off during the night and Dave had the covers pulled up. He kicked them off and got out of bed walking to the window. He felt a cool breeze blowing softly through the window then headed downstairs to get a cup of coffee.

He entered the kitchen looking around at the knick knacks sitting around the kitchen. They only served as reminders of the loss of his wife. His thoughts drifted back a couple of years when he had returned from the convention and decided to try his very best to make his marriage work. His involvement with Debbie while at the convention would never leave his mind but now he had to concentrate on forging a new relationship with his wife. Their past issues would be dealt with and they would become more comfortable with each other gradually regaining much of the lost passion.

It was early last year that they found the lump in her breast during a physical. She had not been one to visit the doctor regularly and this exam was past due. A biopsy showed the lump to be malignant and surgery was scheduled for the next week. During that surgery it was found that the cancer was larger than they had thought and had already spread invading other portions of her body. Although the doctors did all they could, the outcome was tragically inevitable.
