Note: This is a completely different story than I've ever written, primarily because it involves the love and loving of two women in their fifties. There is a moral to this story and that is, don't assume anything.

Chapter 1

I remember the day Diane came into my life as though it were yesterday. It was a warm spring day under a cloudless sky, the sun warm and wonderful. The day before, a light rain had fallen all day, leaving behind the smell of air still spring fresh and fragrant with the scent of new blossoms. Even the song birds seemed to be singing brighter.

I've been a widow for a long time, but I've lived well. I'm not wealthy, but I'm comfortable, thanks to my dearly departed and a nice settlement from the insurance when he was killed. I'm active in several social groups and I read, no, I devour books. With all that though, I still found myself feeling that I was in a rut.
