Coaching Kristin-Part IV

From the first day of practice in the new season, Kristin fit my team like a glove. She became an instant team leader and the players admired her for her skill and her work ethic. She got along with both the white girls from the country and the black girls from the city and seemed to bring them together in a mix of cultures and personalities. The players developed into a very close-knit group, making my job that much easier. It got to a point when I just had to toss the ball out in the gym and they knew where to go and what to do and were pushing each other to work hard. It was coaching bliss.

The personal relationship between Kristin and I continued quietly on the side. She would slip me a note she wrote while day-dreaming during classes and I would read them in a stall in the coaches lavatory, trying to suppress a hard-on. But I kept our physical contact to a minimum, mostly out of fear of getting caught and respect for the team.

I had the players over my condo for pizza one night before our first game and she tried to hang around after everyone left. But one player, my center who is named Jenna, needed a ride home.
