Laws of the Land

"Hi," I said as my sister came into the house, without looking up from my work. I was busy working my way through another article. When she didn't respond, I finally looked up. It certainly wasn't like my little sister to say nothing, even when (and sometimes it seemed especially when) I was working. I didn't mind it so much though because she didn't have anyone else to talk to. Our parents had sent her here to live with me so she could give college a try. My nineteen year old sister had plopped herself down into the soft leather chair I kept in my office, I sometimes sat in it when the words were being stubborn in coming.
