Hi, I'm Alan, I'm 45 years old and live with my wife Mary. Mary is a nurse and I'm a semi-retired software developer. Several years ago I was lucky enough to sell off my business to one of the giant software companies for a cool $5 million. I still dabble on different projects and ideas from home, but I'm living pretty comfortably.

Mary is an ER nurse which is a great job with good health care benefits. She works 12 hour shifts (six PM to six AM) three days one week and four the next. We've adapted to the strange schedule, but it's not so bad. When she gets home from work, I make her a nice breakfast, and then she usually takes a shower and sleeps from nine in the morning to three in the afternoon. We have "black-out" shades in the bedroom which makes it nice and dark to sleep.

We live in a large colonial style house in a rural area. Our house sits on a three acre parcel and our closest neighbor's house is a good fifty to sixty yards away from ours. I took over one of the upstairs bedrooms for my office that's across the hall and down from the master bedroom so if I'm on the phone or doing something, it won't disturb Mary's sleep.

Two years ago, a couple moved into the house next door and did a drastic remodel from front to back, top to bottom. The house was very modern and angular with lots of glass and light. They installed a pool in the back yard and put a fence around it to keep out any unwanted visitors ...
