I woke to the sound of someone pounding on my door. I glanced at the clock and sighed realizing it was almost one in the morning and I had to be up for work at six. "Who the fuck is it?" I shouted, not wanting to lift my head from my pillow. "Dude its Cody, get up." Came the reply. I sighed to myself and slowly made my way from my warm bed to the door.

Cody lived down the hall from me in our Army barracks. We hung out sometimes, often when there was a group of us all hanging out together, as we often did, but I wouldn't consider him to be one of my closer friends. As to what the hell he was doing pounding on my door at this time of night I couldn't even imagine.

I opened the door and looked angrily out at Cody standing there decked out in his usual Tie-Die nightmare. Cody was a long time Grateful Dead faithful before joining the Army on his Thirtieth birthday. When I once asked him what made him decide to join the Army he simply stated, "Dude I just wanted to be all I could be." It was obvious to anyone who ever carried on even the shortest of conversations with him that he'd more than just experimented with a little LSD in his time.
