Keisha was bone tired from working two shifts to make ends meet, her life was hard but at least she had a job, paid her rent and managed to send some money home to her folks for the upkeep of her daughter too. As she sat on the sofa eating her dinner and watching the news on TV, it was all bad news about the economic crises, companies and factories were closing, banks going bust even the big ones. She was about to turn it off when she heard the word Recession; she didn't know what the word meant but it didn't sound good. Then she heard it on the news too, terrible news, the company she worked for had gone bust too, they were closing their factories.

The next day Keisha left the factory and walked out into the parking lot for the last time. Her mind was swirling, she had just been laid off. "How could this be happening?" she wondered aloud. Just a few weeks before the management had assured workers that their jobs were safe as the company was healthy. Her plant was always busy in fact they were struggling to meet outstanding orders.

As she got into her 10 year old junk of a car, she began to cry; how was she going to pay the rent and take care of her daughter? Although she was only 29, she wasn't quite the sort of young pretty woman that men ...
