A Weekend at the Cottage

It was 3:00 in the afternoon and my brain was starting to go into shutdown mode at work so I could get ready for the weekend. My significant other, Julie, and I owned a small cottage near the shore. Our married friends, Don and Carrie, were going to join us for the weekend. Some beer and wine, a few steaks on the grill. lazing it on the beach - a perfect weekend planned. Then the phone rang.

Julie was on the other end. "Some crap came up at work and Don has to cancel. He's gonna be busy both days." "Ah, shit," came my normal reply. "How about Carrie? Can she make it? No need to stay home if Don's out of commission."

Julie said she had asked her and Carrie would think about it. I told Julie to call her back. It was going to be a beautiful weekend and we already bought the steaks. Julie said she would and would see me when I got home.

A few hours later I was home and Julie greeted me with a kiss. "Carrie is going to make it. But tell me, why were you so emphatic about Carrie's coming? A getaway weekend for the two of us wouldn't be so bad, would it?" ...
