The Trip

I was enjoying a mid summer slow set at work. I was between big jobs, writing a few reports and showing up at 10 and leaving at 2. Life was good. Then the phone rang.

I was conferenced in with one of our primary clients on the East Coast. I would love to tell you who but if I did I would have to shoot you. You know the drill. They had a catastrophe. One of their database servers went down and an entire unit was black.

After talking to my boss and the director of the unit we came to an immediate short term band-aid and a long term fix. I left the meeting with authority to spend what ever it takes to get them in operation immediately.

I jumped on our training Citrix server and set up security for them. I went to the customer's secure data vault on line and snatched their latest backup. I restored the backup set to the training database. I jumped back on the phone and gave a few key players remote access to test the integrity of the data and got one of their I T guys started on setting up Citrix access to the customer's users. That was the band-aid.

Once I was sure they could at least function, I started on a long term ...
