Chapter 5

Cheryl and I became each others cheering section at the track meets. We would exchange kisses for good luck and be there for our victories. The school was well aware of our relationship and we were profiled together in the school paper as "The Hottest Running Couple in the Conference." Though it was accepted as a reference to us being great runners, most of the school caught the pun. Cheryl and I were proud of the dubious honor and made no effort to conceal the fact that we were an item.

Cheryl and I were talking about prom the Monday before hand at lunch when Troy Fisher came by and said that his parents were letting him use their Lake Geneva house for a post-prom party. We asked if there would be private rooms.

"Only about fifteen. You two want one?"

Cheryl looked at me out of the corner of her eye, "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Since I always know what you're thinking about, yes."

Troy just rolled his eyes and said, "Jesus, you two are obvious. Don't you guys do anything else together." ...
