Scene 1

A Casting for Alice by Lady Grey

I guess I was a little naive at my first professional casting session. I had been out of work for a couple of months and I was getting desperate. I actually pleaded with Ray, my agent, to give me an opportunity to do something, anything at all.

He looked at me over his large desk. "How do you feel about appearing naked on stage?" he asked.

I looked at him. "What is it?" I asked.

"It's a fringe theatre production of Alice in Wonderland."

"And I have to appear naked?" I queried.

He nodded. "It's one of those Jake Western things. There's always nakedness in them. It's his trademark."
