Peggy and Sarah sat nervously in the secure waiting area just outside the Grand Jury room. The DA had warned them not to discuss her upcoming testimony or anything else regarding Deb's case. Because they were both preoccupied with Deb's situation, they had a hard time making small talk. The conversation always seemed to come back to Deb and then they'd catch themselves and sit in awkward silence.

After a little more then an hour, the DA came in. "Okay Peggy, we're ready for you. Now remember, all you have to do is answer my questions as completely and honestly as you can. I know you want to help your friend, but any deception on your part will surely hurt her more them help. The Grand Jury has agreed to give you immunity for any crimes you may admit to in the course of your testimony so you can testify without fear of being prosecuted later. Do you understand?"

Peggy gave an affirmative nod. The DA responded, "Okay then, it's ShowTime."

Peggy trembled as she strode down the long table to take her seat at the end. She felt tiny seated in the huge overstuffed high-backed chair. She shook visibly as she looked down the sides of the table at the twelve faces. Faces of all kinds, black, white, brown, old, young, male, female. All of them had their eyes fixed on her. ...
