It was the bottom of the seventh inning and we were down by one run. There were two outs- one of which, unfortunately, belonged to me as I had hit an easy ground ball to the shortstop.

Glancing over at the runner on first base, I cheered on my teammate and best friend, Madison, who was at the plate.

The count was 2-0. I could tell she was excited - she knew she was going to get something to swing at soon. She stepped back and took a breath, then stepped back into the box. The 2-0 pitch was on its way. Madison started to swing, but stopped herself just short.

"Ball three!" the umpire bellowed from behind the plate.

"Atta girl Maddie, make her work for it, make her pitch to you!" I screamed, my teammates clapping and yelling along side me. She glanced back at the dugout and caught my eye. I gave her a huge smile and a wink and she stepped back into the batter's box.

The 3-0 pitch was a little high, but right down the middle. I saw her get her arms extended and get all her weight behind the ball. I could tell from the crack of the bat on the ball that she'd hit it hard - it only took another moment to see that she'd hit it over the left field fence.
