I was a happily married 44 year old woman with a husband, two kids, a house in the suburbs and what I felt was an ideal life, or so I thought.

My son Dennis had gone to study-abroad in France last year where he stayed with a French family and went to school for the spring quarter of his junior year. His host family would then send their son to live with us the next year. When Dennis returned from his spring quarter experience, he seemed much more mature and I was pleased to see him grow into a mature young man. Now Maurice, his French counterpart was due to arrive at our house and I readied the spare bedroom in the daylight basement for him.

I had seen pictures of Maurice and could tell he was a handsome, confident young man and I looked forward to having him spend a few months with us.

It was late-August and very warm. It was nice having the pool in the back yard to keep cool. My daughter Shelly was home from her second year at State College and she was spending most of the time sunning during the day and clubbing at night. My husband was in his typical mode, working ten hours a day and travelling out of town every third week or so. I kept myself busy in the garden and running the household.
