We had been in our new home for about a year now. All of the plots had at least 3 acres and there were tall mature evergreen trees all around the homes. Our land was located in an isolated rural subdivision, which gave us a very private setting. This was the home I had dreamed about having for so many years and now we owned it. Well, we and the mortgage company anyway.

I soon found out that it took a lot more money to get our landscaping and lawn completed. It also took a lot of back breaking work to keep everything up on a weekly basis. Home owners know exactly what I am talking about.

Our closest neighbors were a young couple, who moved into their new home about the same time we did. They were going through the same effort we were. The difference was that my neighbor's wife Jen was the gardener, lawn cutter and landscaper.

I spent a lot of time in our yard putting in and maintaining a nice lawn. I saw Jen working and slaving in the rain and heat, to make her place as beautiful as ours. Her husband was some kind of software engineer and I hardly ever saw him mowing his lawn or working in the yard. When I did see him outside, he was working on some personal project that had nothing to do with their physical surroundings. ...
