Daniela sat in her kitchen, decorated in out-of-style 1970's Formica and plastic. Over the years she'd told herself she'd have the kitchen re-done, but never did it. She'd remodeled the living room and her bedroom a few years ago, but the kitchen was a massive undertaking that she'd yet to plunge into. It was an old place but affordable. Now it was just her, the kids were grown and gone and her husband had finally taken off. She missed the kids but it was good to be rid of the man that had been in her spouse in name only. In and out of work, but never out of beer, he'd drained her funds and then had started on the kids' savings. Yes, she was far better off without him.

Now alone, though, she was lonely, bored, and could feel negative feelings of life settling into her psyche. Twenty years of waitressing, working as a maid, and even a short bit as a cabbie, combined with coupon cutting and thrifty spending had helped her successfully raise the kids. Her daughter was a teacher now, her son a journalist. Pride in her children was great, but what of herself? What was she now, what would be her goal? In her early forties she was still an attractive, curvy blonde, and every time she went anywhere she could feel the looks and acknowledged the flirts. There wasn't a problem getting male attention, but the men she'd dated seldom interested her. The few of those that made it to her bed, did little or nothing to arouse her passions. The one thing her ex had going for him was his strong masculine personality during sex. If only he'd been strong in supporting his family and working. No such luck there. ...
