Everything and Nothing.

At the age of 25, I still look back and think of the irony of how I met Monica. If someone had told me that the first person ever to hit me with a golf ball would end up marrying me, I'd have laughed my head off; in essence that was literally what happened.

Working as a green keeper on one of Edinburgh's more upmarket golf courses, the sad truth was, due to staff shortages and illness, I had to muck in and ended up doing a labourers job. Don't misunderstand me, raking bunkers didn't bother me in the slightest....feeling a searing pain in my shoulder then dropping to the ground.... that did bother me.

The fourteen hole on the course was an accident waiting to happen, teeing off up a hill, the previous head green keeper had decided to add two bunkers into the side of the fairway just over the crest of a hill. From the tee, it was impossible to see if anyone was just behind the crest of the hill, yet no one had ever given much thought to the poor labourers who had to rake those bunkers while people played through.

In the space of four years there had been several near misses between golfers and labourers, as a workforce we had discussed it and even asked for flags to be placed in plain sight from the tee if labourers were working, alas our boss was too stupid to see sense until one of us ...
