The Big Day Out. The biggest, most important musical event of the year. 12 hours of some of the hottest local and international bands in the world, spread over acres of parkland on countless stages. Come the day of the gig, there was no better place to be. Well, that's what we thought anyway, so we'd been planning our day for months, even before half the bands were announced.

A group of about 30 of us from work were going. One of the girls printed out a plan of the parklands, showing where the stages were going to be. We worked out where we were going to set up our own 'staging area' where we could keep all our bags and stuff. Hey, just 'cos we were gonna get trashed, didn't mean we weren't organised.

A couple of days before-hand, when all the acts were locked in, the same girl printed out a few copies of the program, so we'd all know who was playing where and when. The day finally arrived and we all set out separately and eventually met up at the agreed spot. Obviously, not everyone was going to watch the same bands, so we knew there would always be at least two people watching all our gear.

I wondered around for a little while, getting a feel for the day. Checked out a few up-and-coming local bands, the merchandise stalls. The day was starting to warm up and the girls were starting to get down to their bikinis, which is always a good thing.
