A halloween inspired story

Life, Love, Death & Sex

Lilly had been dead exactly 48 minutes and 24 seconds as she got bored. They'd given up on her, she could see that much from her vantage point, floating a couple of feet in the air above her body. At first they had tried to reanimate her, and she couldn't help but think that Ed, her sleazy manager, was in fact a brave guy for trying CPR, considering the circumstances she died in. She hadn't given him enough credit, and now it was too late.

She followed her body as people took it to the morgue, curiously hanging around, but no one did anything, so she floated around the offices there. Plenty of busy people, going about their business, and then she heard her name called, and floated through a wall nearby, wondering about how easy it was to accommodate to being dead.

A guy in a dark suit was on the phone, and by the way he was talking Lilly felt a cold chill crawl down her non-existential spine. He was talking to her mother. "Oh no ..." Lilly moaned, and wanted to bury her head in her arms, but she could see right through them anyway. "Please don't ..." she moaned, but the man didn't hear her, and continued. "Cause of death? One moment ..."
