A Halloween Fantasy.

Taking my nephew trick or treating had some unexpected treats for me too.

I'd gone up to my sisters for a brief holiday late October. I'd had a great time but it hadn't really been action packed. Mostly I'd gone for walks, watched some sport with my brother-in-law and generally relaxed. It was the Friday and Halloween, two days before I had to return home, I volunteered to take nephew and his friends trick or treating. We had fun, well as much as you can have with six ten year olds. Not really knowing the area well I let my nephew lead the way through the streets saying "Hi" to all the other groups of little monsters and comparing notes which houses had given the most generously. I made small talk with some of the supervising adults though most seemed to be stressed and annoyed for having to give up a Friday night child-minding rowdy kids that would probably be sick later. We made our way, I thought, back to my sister's house but we must have made a wrong turn and ended up on a deserted lane.

"Whoa, this is Gleam street, there's only the batty old biddy at the big house and she never gives anything to anybody" My nephew said

"Maybe she's not alone, there are a lot of lights on at the house" I said peering along the drive to see a huge house half hidden by mature ...
